Our Heritage

The organisation of the Joint Civil Aid Corps is based on the original Civil Defence Corps (CDC) that saw existence throughout the Second World War and continued until the late 1960s.  Its actual start can be traced back to 1935 with the setting up of Air Raid Precautions.  The Government finally stood down the CDC in 1968.

The key ethos behind the CDC was ‘Safety for the community, by the community’ – normal people taking responsibility for the wellbeing and support of their families and neighbours in time of need, and that is what the Joint Civil Aid Corps wants to inspire in our adults and cadets.
